City: Review garbage collection rules

ESCANABA — The Escaaba Department of Public Works asks that residents review the garbage and recycle collection guidelines. These guidelines can be found on its website at escanaba.org/publicworks.

The department receives numerous calls regarding missed collection due to carts not being out on time. Sending the trucks back to these addresses for extra pick-ups causes a disruption in the efficiency of the collection route and can be very costly over time.

Garbage and recycle collection starts at 7:30 a.m. each day. We ask that you have your cart out before 7:30 a.m. on your collection day. Each driver does his or her route differently. Therefore, your collection time may change (i.e., earlier or later than “usual”) when a substitute driver is necessary on the route.

Additionally, collection times may change if there is an equipment breakdown. The routes are completed between 7:30 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. each day, unless there is an unforeseen event that causes a longer delay. The landfill closes to our trucks at 3 p.m.

If there are any questions, call the Department of Public Works at (906) 786-1842, or email us at rbecotte@escanaba.org or wtaavola@escanaba.org.
