Bay honors Linderoth as Outstanding Educator

ESCANABA — Bay College has honored Karl Linderoth, full-time computer network systems & security and gis instructor, as one of its recipients of the Outstanding Educator Award sponsored by the Don Johnson Agency/MEEMIC Insurance. To receive consideration for the award, faculty were nominated by a colleague, student, or someone from the community. The primary focus of this award is to acknowledge faculty’s commitment to education and excellence in service to others.

Linderoth began his career in information technology in 1996 as a bench tech and network tech, eventually being promoted to director of information systems at Michigan Works! where he managed networks in seven locations. He has been employed at Bay College since 2001 and enjoys teaching both Intro to Linux and Advanced Linux, Network Security, and Microsoft server courses. Linderoth splits his time between the West Campus in Iron Mountain and the main campus in Escanaba and works closely with evolving K-12 Early College programs.

Linderoth holds a master’s of science degree in career technical education including 18 credits in management information systems, computer science, and network security from Ferris State University. Linderoth was named an outstanding educator at Bay College in 2005-2006, 2010-2011 and again in 2019-2020. He has been active in information technology positions for more than 20 years and holds lifetime certifications from CompTIA in Network+, Convergence+ (Voice Over IP) and Security+CE. He is a Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) in Windows Server Administration, and has earned multiple Microsoft Technology Associate certifications including Mobility and Device Fundamentals, Database and Cloud Fundamentals. Most recently he earned the CompTIA Security+ CE certification that meets the DoD 8140 requirements for both technical and management information assurance employment and auditing of DoD subcontractors.

He is being recognized as an outstanding faculty member not only based on his tremendous IT knowledge but on his commitment to the CNSS and GIS programs and his passion to help students succeed.

“Karl is the type of instructor who genuinely cares about each and every student. He takes great pride in his role in helping students achieve their college degree, dedicates time to both the Escanaba and Iron Mountain campuses and helps students make industry connections to start their careers. Karl is very deserving of this recognition for the time he dedicates to the program and the students,” said Dean of Business, Technology and Workforce Development Cindy Carter said.
