Woman gets prison on drug charges

ESCANABA — An Escanaba woman, charged in two cases regarding drugs, was sentenced to a minimum of three years in prison in Delta County Circuit Court recently.

Bobbi Jo Godfrey, 35, of 823 2nd Ave. S., Apt. 2, Escanaba, was found guilty of one count of controlled substance – possession of meth/ecstasy.

She was sentenced to three years to 20 years in prison and was credited for 344 days already served.

Godfrey also pleaded no contest to one count of controlled substance – possession/analogues. She was sentenced to 344 days in jail and credited for 344 days already served.

The sentences are to be served concurrently.

The Delta County Prosecutor’s Office released additional information regarding the charges.

On March 3, 2019, officers of Escanaba Public Safety conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by Godfrey in Escanaba.

Godfrey consented to a search of her vehicle. In her purse, officers located an Ice Breakers Mint container with a small baggy with crystal shards inside.

A test of the substance determined it to be crystal meth.

On March 13, 2019, Delta County correctional officers conducted a search of a women’s cell that house Godfrey, who was incarcerated awaiting court for the first offense, and other women inmates.

During the search, officers found Buprenorphine pills in the cell that had been brought in by another inmate. A drug test of Godfrey revealed she had used the drug while incarcerated.

Godfrey was ordered to pay $396 in fines and costs.
