Community Foundation awards grant

ESCANABA — The City of Escanaba Recreation Department, along with the Catherine Bonifas Civic Center accepted a grant award from the Community Foundation for Delta County for its After School Program.

“The program has been in existence for four years and continues to grow. The community is very fortunate to have organizations such as the Community Foundation for Delta County. The After School Program runs strictly on donations,” said Kim Peterson, recreation director.

The After School Program consists of snacks, hygiene items and school supplies to students in grades fourth to 12th grades. Students come to the Catherine Bonifas Civic Center after school which is a safe, supervised facility. Students can also utilize the gym, gameroom, laptops, wi-fi, board games, read a book program, etc.

Anyone is welcome to come and tour the facility as there are various activities taking place throughout the course of the day, to include, basketball, volleyball, aerobics, pickleball and walking, along with housing the Community Action Agency Senior Center, which offers a large variety of activities and events as well.
