Esky Friends of Library host open house

ESCANABA — The Friends of the Escanaba Public Library invite the public to an open house at the library on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is planned to coincide with National Library Card Sign Up Month and will showcase library resources and programs for students and families.

Demonstrations of online learning tools such as Mango Languages, the Michigan e-Library and Bookflix will be featured, as well as on-site tours of the library. Special activities will include storytelling, Lego creations, a make-and-take table, ukulele strum and free vision testing.

“Back-to-school is a great time to get reacquainted with your public library and all the tools available to support student success,” said Library Director Carolyn Stacey. “The friends have put together a lively program of events and we encourage families and kids to join in the fun.”

Each child attending will receive a new book (while supplies last) and the opportunity to win gift cards from Meijer and Walmart. Students with current library cards or those registering for a new card can enter a drawing for a chance to win a Chromebook.
