More information released on fire

ESCANABA — Escanaba Public Safety has provided additional information on a Monday morning house fire in Escanaba. At 1:04 a.m., officers were called to a two-story duplex at 416 1st Ave. S. for a report of a bedroom on fire in the back of the residence.

Upon arrival, the north east corner of the duplex was on fire, as well as a vehicle in the driveway. Officers said they quickly attacked the fire, but the flames had already spread to the upstairs apartment and into the attic area.

Officers were at the scene extinguishing the fire until around 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Officers said the residence is a complete loss and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

In addition to destroying the duplex itself, a neighboring home located at 412 1st Ave. S. sustained exterior damage due to the heat from the blaze.
