County clerks have conference in Harris

HARRIS – The Michigan Association of County Clerks (MACC) held its 111th Annual Summer Conference in Harris earlier this week.

MACC held sessions on a variety of issues over the two and a half day conference. Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and the Michigan Bureau of Elections personnel were in attendance to discuss preparations for the 2020 elections. County clerks and their staffs also participated in a U.S. Department of Homeland Security election security tabletop exercise.

“The attendance at the conference, which required 6-10 hours of travel for most county clerks, is a testament to the commitment these clerks have,” said MACC President and Montcalm County Clerk Kristen Millard. “This week highlighted some of the most prominent parts of our jobs including election security, election filing requirements and deadlines, campaign finance, and concealed pistol licensing issues. MACC is an amazing organization and serves as a very reliable resource for all county clerks.”

Delta County Clerk Nancy Przewrocki was president of MACC in 2006, the last time the conference was held in the U.P.

The MACC Clerk of the Year Award was presented to Branch County Clerk Terry Kubasiak in recognition of her nearly 15 years of dedicated service to citizens and MACC on the Vital Records Revision Committee and in other roles in the organization. The award recipient is selected based on criteria formulated by the MACC Board of Directors, from nominations from other Clerks and the Clerk of the Year Committee.

The officers for the MACC 2020 Board of Directors were also elected during the conference.

“I am very honored to have been elected to serve as the MACC 2019 President and wish my successor, Gladwin County Clerk Laura Brandon-Maveal the very best in 2020,” said Millard.

“MACC is an amazing way to network, educate and grow,” stated MACC President-Elect and Gladwin County Clerk Laura Brandon-Maveal. “We pride ourselves in education and providing our statutory and constitutional duties in the most efficient manner to our constituents. I am honored to serve this board as the 2020 president and look forward to building our amazing group for the future.”
