Suzanne Gapa of Elmer's County Market bakery department stands near the cake donut display at the Escanaba store to promote National Donut Day. Today is National Donut Day, and Elmer's is marking the occasion by donating $1 for every cake donut 12 pack sold today to the Salvation Army. Since May 18, Elmer's has also been selling paper donuts to customers at checkout for $1. All of the proceeds from the purchase also benefit the Salvation Army. National Donut Day was started by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor their members who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.
