Free vessel safety checks offered

ESCANABA –The Marine Division of the Delta County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting free vessel safety checks June 21, 22 and 23.

According to the office, the checks are free to the public and are used to guide and assist the public with ensuring the correct required items are on their vessel. No citations will be issued during the event. Friday, June 21, the checks will be at the Gladstone Boat Launch from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 22 the checks will be given at the Escanaba North Shore Boat Launch from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 23 the checks will be available at the Escanaba Aronson Island Boat Launch from noon to 2 p.m. No appointment is needed.

The Sheriff’s Office said upon completion of the inspection, boats will be issued a vessel checked sticker to display for 2019. The sticker lets the DNR and sheriff’s office employees know the vessel has already been checked for carriage requirements.
