YMCA summer day camps offered

ESCANABA — The Northern Lights YMCA-Delta Center is busy preparing for the upcoming summer day camps. The organization will be offering Day Camp at the YMCA / Bay College and at Rotary Camp Harstad, which is designed for children with special needs. Both camp programs will begin on June 17 and run through August 16. Camp Harstad will not have camp the week of July 1- 5. The YMCA Day Camp and Camp Harstad programs run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This summer the YMCA will be offering two smaller camps: Little Explorers will be offered for campers ages 5 to 7 and Y Discovery will be offered to campers ages 8 to 12.5 year old campers are required to have been through a full day kindergarten program.

“These smaller group sizes will help create a more close-knit group making each week even more memorable for the campers” said Katey Huber, youth programs coordinator.

The YMCA Camp Harstad program for children with special needs is located in Ford River south of Escanaba and is funded through a partnership with the Rotary Club of Escanaba.

A free lunch is served starting Week 2 at the Camp Harstad and YMCA sites through Escanaba school’s “Meet Up and Eat Up” program. DATA Transportation will be offered to campers again this year. For a fee, a camper can ride the DATA bus from either Rapid River Knifeworks or Happy Rock BP. The bus will start at Rapid River Knifeworks, stop at Happy Rock BP, and then end at the YMCA.

To learn more about programs and staff, the YMCA will hold a Meet the Staff Orientation on Monday, June 10, at 6 p.m. For more information on Summer Day Camp or the Camp Harstad program, call the YMCA at 789-0005 or go online at www.nlymca.com.
