Trooper Curtis St. Louis

GLADSTONE — The Michigan State Police (MSP) has announced the assignment of three new troopers to the Gladstone Post. Trooper Curtis St. Louis, Trooper Chloe Farnham and Trooper Kyle Lott graduated as members of the 135th Trooper Recruit School on April 3.

The 135th Trooper Recruit School began on Sept. 23 when prospective troopers reported to the MSP Training Academy.

Recruits received training in firearms, water safety, defensive tactics, patrol techniques, report writing, ethics, cultural diversity and implicit bias, first aid, criminal law, crime scene processing and precision driving.

After a 28-week period, 101 recruits were sworn in as MSP troopers on April 3 and assigned to work sites across the state.

St. Louis is from St. Ignace and is the son of Joseph and Colleen St. Louis of St. Ignace. St. Louis attended Northern Michigan University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing.

Lott is from Elkhart, Ind., and is the son of Leslie and Tammy Lott of Elkhart. Lott attended Northwestern Michigan College. He is a reservist in the U.S. Marine Corps and is an avid hockey player.

All new troopers participate in a 20-week Field Training Program. During the program, new troopers are paired with more experienced troopers for their shifts. The program helps new troopers apply their studies to real life police work and conduct patrol and investigations under the supervision of seasoned troopers. Upon completion of the Field Training Program, new troopers begin working independently and their performance is evaluated monthly for six months.
