Natural resources camp scholarships available

MANISTIQUE — The Schoolcraft Conservation District (SCD) will be offering scholarships for Schoolcraft County high school students to attend either of two natural resource career camps being offered in June 2019.

The Career Pathways Program will be held June 23 – 27 in Roscommon, Mich. Sponsored by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and hosted at the Ralph A. MacMullen Conference Center, this intensive camp is designed to give students a taste of the daily work performed by foresters, conservation officers, park rangers, and others in related fields. Applications are due March 1. All activities are held outdoors regardless of weather, and the camp is limited to 20 students. For details and an application, go to www.michigan.gov/dnr. Click on “Education and Safety.” Near the bottom of the page, look under “Youth” and click on “Career Pathways Program.”

The Natural Resources Careers Exploration Week will be held June 16-21 at Trees for Tomorrow in Eagle River, Wis. This camp also includes lots of time outdoors, although its scope is somewhat broader and serves as a more general introduction to a variety of natural resource careers. The camp is limited to 30 students; applications are due April 12. For more information and an application, go to www.treesfortomorrow.com/H-S-Careers-Week.
