Bay offers clinical medical assistant program

ESCANABA — Registration is open for Bay College Training & Development’s Clinical Medical Assistant program that begins on Feb. 12. This non-credit workforce development program is designed to prepare students for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national certification examination. This training is also ideal for those interested in pursuing a future formal Nursing (LPN) or a Nursing (RN) program.

Clinical medical assistants are trained to function as professionals in multiple healthcare settings. Medical assistants with a clinical background perform various tasks including assisting with the administration of medications and with minor procedures, performing an EKG electrocardiogram, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients and other related tasks. Job opportunities are prevalent with hospitals, clinics, and outpatient facilities.

The clinical medical assistant training program consists of 140 course contact hours, plus a 160 hour clinical externship. The training schedule will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9:30 p.m. starting Feb. 12, running through May 23. Training will also take place on the following Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Feb. 23, March 9 and 23, April 6 and 27, and May 11. Thereis a fee to take part.
