New youth, family fall programs at YMCA

ESCANABA — Northern Lights YMCA is getting ready for the start of their fall programming. They are offering few new opportunities to be involved with the YMCA starting in September. “We are excited for the variety of youth and family programs we will be offering this fall and hope to build off of these first few programs,” said Katey Huber, Youth Program Coordinator. These programs include: Teen Nights, Outdoor Adventure Series, Family Flick-N-Float, and Parents Night Out.

Sept. 22 brings the YMCA’s second teen program, the first part in an Outdoor Adventure Series. The Outdoor Adventure Series, which went from a vision to reality with the support of the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund, will give area teens an opportunity to learn the basics in different forms of outdoor recreation. “It will help us introduce area youth to our natural environment,” added Huber. This first session will be learning the basics behind kayaking, as well as going out on a kayaking excursion.

Northern Lights YMCA is also excited to announce a new family program, Family Flick-N-Float. This will be an afternoon at the YMCA to enjoy a family friendly film and swim time in the pool. This will also be offered on September 22. This will be a free event to YMCA members, there is a fee for the general public.

Closing out September will be a Parent’s Night Out on Sept. 28. This will be an opportunity for parents and kids to have a night out. The kids will have the opportunity to play gym games, swim in the pool, and have a pizza dinner!
