Escanaba High School names top 2016 graduates

ESCANABA – Escanaba Area High School has announced its Class of 2016 Top 10 Graduates. They are:

Rebecca Clark is the daughter of Peggy and Donald Clark of Escanaba. Her academic honors include Academic Letter and Pin, and National Honor Society Rebecca’s activities include Varsity Tennis, French Club (president), Key Club, Marching Band, and musical crew/usher. Her plans after graduation are to attend Central Michigan University and study pre-medicine. Rebecca is active with the Academy of Dance, and serves the community through Title VII, Key Club, and with St. Anthony of Padua Church.

Madison Derouin is the daughter of Marcy and Robert Derouin of Bark River. Her academic honors include Academic Letter and Pin, and National Honor Society. Madison’s activities include Key Club, French Club, and Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA). Her plans after graduation are to attend Central Michigan University and study pre-physician’s assistant. Madison serves her community through St. Anne’s Parish ministries, Salvation Army, Rainbow Connection, Library Story Hour, and the Kid Zone.

Jesse Flath is the daughter of Gypsia and Steve Flath of Escanaba. Her academic honors include Academic Letter and Pin, and National Honor Society. Jesse’s high school activities include Varsity Swim, Varsity Track, Varsity Cross Country, Colorguard, Key Club, and Eskypades. Her plans after graduation are to attend Central Michigan University and study biology. Jesse also volunteers with the Mo Buddies Program.

Matthew Gardner is the son of Kathy and Chick Gardner of Escanaba. His academic honors include Academic Letter and Pin, and National Honor Society. Matthew’s activities include Varsity Cross Country, Robotics, and Marching Band. His plans after graduation are to attend University of Notre Dame and study civil engineering. Matthew serves his community by being alter server at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish and participating with the US Forest Service. He is employed at Kat Mat Klean in Escanaba.

Jonathon Hook is the son of Deborah and William Hook of Escanaba. His academic honors include Academic Letter and Pin, and National Honor Society. Jonathon’s high school activities include Varsity Cross Country, Varsity Track, Marching Band, Chorale, Honors Choir, Varsity Swim, and musicals cast (Mary Poppins). His plans after graduation are to attend Michigan Technological University and study chemical engineering. Jonathon works for Willow Creek Cinema in Escanaba.

Jacqueline O’Driscoll is the daughter of Rene’ O’Driscoll of Escanaba and Stephen O’Driscoll of Gladstone. Her academic honors include Academic Letter and Pin, and National Honor Society. Jacqueline’s high school activities include Key Club (president), Varsity Tennis, Varsity Swim, Varsity Golf, Marching Band, Chorale, Colorguard, Solo and Ensemble (Flute), and Honors Choir. Her plans after graduation are to attend the University of Michigan and study biomedical engineering. Jacqueline enjoys skiing, and baking. Jacqueline serves the community through St. Anne’s Parish Youth Group and Key Club. She also works for Players de Noc as sound board operator and usher.

James Smith is the son of Joan Smith of Cornell and the late James L. Smith. His academic honors include Academic Letter and Pin, and National Honor Society. James’ high school activities include Varsity Track, Quiz Bowl, musical cast and crew member, and Chorale. With the “People to People” program, he traveled to eight countries as an ambassador. James’ plans after graduation are to attend Michigan Technological University and study chemical engineering. He is an accomplished piano player, starting at age five. He enjoys sketching, painting, and biking. James works for Willow Creek Cinema in Escanaba.

Haile Waters is the daughter of Kristy and Brian Waters of Escanaba. Her academic honors include Academic Letter and Pin, and National Honor Society. Haile’s high school activities include Student Council, ISD Honor Society, Health Occupations Student of America HOSA (Historian), Varsity Volleyball, Varsity Basketball (team captain), Varsity Track, musical crew member, Key Club, and Challenge Day. Her plans after graduation are to attend Michigan State University and study pre-medicine. Haile works at the Buck Inn Restaurant in Wells, and she volunteers at Bishop Noa Home and the New Life Assembly of God Church.

Adrienne Wessel is the daughter of Michele and Peter Wessel of Escanaba. Her academic honors include Academic Letter and Pin, and National Honor Society. Adrienne’s high school activities include Varsity Cross Country, Varsity Swim, Honors Choir, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Solo and Ensemble, Chorale, and Key Club. Her plans after graduation are to attend St. Olaf College and study pre-medicine. Adrienne serves her community through Big Brothers/Big Sisters and she’s a pianist for her church, Our Savior Lutheran, and two other local parishes in Escanaba. She is employed by the City of Escanaba and the YMCA as a lifeguard and swim instructor.

Katherine Ziebell is the daughter of Beverly and Art Ziebell of Escanaba. Her academic honors include Academic Letter and Pin, and National Honor Society. Her high school activities include Varsity Volleyball (team captain), Varsity Basketball, Dual Enrollment, and Mo Buddy Program. Her plans after graduation are to attend Northern Michigan University and study pre-medicine (pre-physician’s assistant). Katherine serves the community by working concessions at Holy Name athletic tournaments, ushering at St. Anne’s Parish, and as an assistant volleyball coach. She enjoys reading, music, and babysitting. Katherine is employed at Elmer’s County Market.
