ESCANABA — Monday afternoon, CK Martini Lounge, housed at 1213 Ludington St., opened to the general public for the first time. An invitation-only VIP preview event had been held at the venue on Friday evening to thank entities like Roy Ness Contracting and others who had helped contribute to the birth of a new Escanaba destination.
Now, patrons may visit CK to find cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and ten draft beers in a dimly-lit setting.
Most people who’ve spent time in the area in recent decades probably remember the building as the home of Crispigna’s Restaurant, an Italian eatery that Joe and Ann Crispigna opened in 1972 (albeit with a different name at first). It closed down a few years ago, after which point Spaulding Real Estate, LLC purchased the building.
Curt and Kelly Spaulding, who also own Cat-Man-Do’s a couple doors down, developed a new plan for the vacant space at 1213, and now the transformation is complete.
The vision had been for a “high-end martini lounge,” Curt told City Council in October, and attendees so far seem to believe the mark was reached.

In autumn 2025, the City of Escanaba approved establishment of an Obsolete Property Rehabilitation District at the site, which waives a portion of property taxes in order to help people refurbish old places.
Financial support for redevelopment came in part from Michigan’s Revitalization and Placemaking (RAP) program.
Though the wooden bar is the same, out went the old dining booths; new are updated booths, tables, ceiling and more designed to evoke an upscale feel. A dark interior and colored lighting brings a new vibe to the renovated space.
The selection at CK Downtown Martini Lounge is focused on martinis, high-end cocktails, beer and high-end appetizers.
