ESCANABA — Upper Peninsula State Bank, a member of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis (FHLBI), recently promoted the FHLBI’s Elevate Grant Program to local small business owners Heidi and Adam Haeusler. The bank assisted in the process of helping them apply for and get awarded the funds. Elevate is a small business grant program that assists the growth and development of small businesses, their workforce, and the communities where they are located.

To apply, business owners must partner with a member bank such as Upper Peninsula State Bank. Heidi and Adam Haeusler, owners of Mr. Bike & Ski located in downtown Escanaba, were awarded a $20,000 grant. Mr. Bike & Ski is a local shop that primarily serves the outdoor-loving residents of Escanaba and the surrounding areas of Delta County. They are focused on bringing tourism and outdoor adventure to their local community. “Our mission is to connect more folks to the outdoors and an active lifestyle. We are committed to enhancing adventure travel in the Escanaba area and believe it is our responsibility to make our store and recreation in Delta County more accessible for locals and tourists,” Heidi Haeusler said. “We applied for this grant because we believe using the money to reinvest will help increase the value of our business and elevate our potential to align and evolve with our city’s vision for growth.”

The Haeusler’s plan to use the funds to make necessary upgrades to their store, such as installation of a new sign and the addition of a drinking fountain. They plan to purchase e-bikes to add to their inventory and a rental bike fleet, and are also excited to be able to send their Lead Mechanic to a Fox Master Tech Clinic hosted by the United Bicycle Institute.

President and CEO of Upper Peninsula State Bank, David Williams, commented on the FHLBI Elevate Grant Program. “As a member of the FHLBI, we feel it is important to help connect businesses that focus on our U.P. communities with the funds necessary to strengthen their mission. Like us, Mr. Bike and Ski is focused on progress and growth in the U.P., and we look forward to continuing to assist other businesses in the future with the FHLBI Elevate Grant Program”
