ESCANABA — In the world of sports, the spotlight often shines on the athletes, but behind every successful event lies a dedicated team of volunteers whose efforts ensure everything runs smoothly. The recent Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass – the Epson Tour golf event was no exception, thanks to the unwavering commitment of hundreds of volunteers who braved incessant rain showers and challenging conditions to support the tournament hosts, organizers, and golfers on their way to the LPGA.

Over the course of the event, these volunteers filled an impressive 420 positions, showcasing their versatility and dedication. From early morning cart driving and assisting players to late evening score reporting, their contributions were instrumental in the seamless execution of the tournament.

The volunteers’ resilience was particularly commendable given the challenging weather conditions. On Saturday afternoon the relentless rain could not dampen their spirits as they waited nearly three hours for the decision about the tournament’s potential cancellation. Once the decision was made to cancel the remaining play on Saturday with plans to resume early Sunday morning, the dedicated volunteers returned to ensure that the event proceeded without a hitch, regardless of the weather.

Their hard work did not go unnoticed. Players and tour officials alike expressed their gratitude, acknowledging that the volunteers’ dedication significantly enhanced the overall experience. The camaraderie and positive energy they brought to the event created an inviting and supportive atmosphere for everyone involved.

Clearly, the volunteer efforts were not just about fulfilling duties but also about fostering a sense of community and passion for the sport of golf. Their collective effort exemplifies the true spirit of volunteerism — selfless service, teamwork, and a shared commitment to success.

As we celebrate Soo Bin Joo’s win and the success of the 13th Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass – the Epson Tour, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the volunteers. Their contribution went above and beyond the tasks at hand; they embodied the essence of what makes our waterfront community special.

To the volunteers who filled 420 positions and stood resilient through driving rain and the unpredictability of Mother Nature, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your dedication and hard work were the driving forces behind the event’s success.

As the presenting sponsor and on behalf of the Island Resort and Casino, the Delta County Chamber thanks you for being such an essential part of our team. We couldn’t have done it without you.
