Sjoquist returns as orthopedic surgeon

IRON MOUNTAIN — Kingsford, Mich. native Dr. Daniel Sjoquist is returning to practice in the community where he was born and raised, serving the people of Iron Mountain and Escanaba with hip and knee expertise.

Once known for his performance on the field with the Kingsford High School football team, Sjoquist is now an orthopedic surgeon who is excited to practice where he once played.

“I love the U.P., and I always knew I wanted to return to this area once I was done with school and training,” Sjoquist said. “These communities are very important to me, and I am so pleased to care for their residents as a member of the Bellin Health team.”

After graduating from Kingsford High School, Dr. Sjoquist went on to St. Norbert College and then the Medical College of Wisconsin. After completing his Orthopedic Surgery residency at University of Michigan Hospitals GME, he completed his fellowship in Reconstructive Surgery (Adult) at Beaumont Health System.

“Dr. Sjoquist’s training and credentials are second to none, and we are so grateful he was eager to return home to provide the best in care to the people of the U.P.,” said Tara Shank, Bellin Health director of orthopedics and sports medicine.

“He knows this area because he’s from this area, and that makes a difference for the patients he serves.”

Dr. Sjoquist’s extended connections to the U.P. are many. His wife, Jordan (Zeni) Sjoquist also hails from the area (the pair now have three children), and he works closely with Bellin Health Physician Assistant Benjamin Moreau, who also hails from Kingsford. The pair practice in Iron Mountain and Escanaba, as well as Marinette, Oconto, Green Bay and West De Pere, Wis.
