Barna named YMCA health and wellness coordinator

ESCANABA — The Northern Lights YMCA Delta Center has announced the hiring of Upper Peninsula native Jeannine Barna as the new Delta Center health and wellness coordinator. Barna hails from Ishpeming where her entire family still resides. She graduated from Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor’s in Biology/Physiology and subsequently obtained a master’s in biology with a focus on reproductive biology. Recently, she has been employed by NMU as a medical assistant and teacher, teaching classes including anatomy & physiology, advanced cell biology and biochemistry in addition to filling the role as office manager for a medical office.

Barna is thrilled about her new position and noted, “I have genuinely enjoyed getting to know all the members, program participants and staff. I love communicating with others and sharing the love of health and wellness. I am so looking forward to personal training, teaching group fitness and yoga, and additional wellness programs.”

In her spare time, Barna enjoys hiking, camping, skiing, snowboarding, yoga, meditation, spending time at the beach and immersing herself in science. She is looking forward to fulfilling the YMCA mission of Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility for the community.
