U.P. Michigan Works! facilitates Customer Service Training

ESCANABA — U.P. Michigan Works! (UPMW) invites job seekers and employees in the retail, hospitality, and tourism industries to join them at one of their four customer service seminars designed to produce customer service experts.

The seminars are on May 30 (Houghton), May 31 (Marquette), June 1 (Escanaba), and June 2 (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.). All events take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost is $250. Lunch and other consumables will be provided. This cost is covered for participants who enroll in a U.P. Michigan Works! program prior to the start of training. A Social Security card and driver’s license or ID are needed to begin enrollment.

Participants will learn entry-level customer service skills and at the end of training, participants will have earned a certificate in Guest Service Gold Tourism and a certificate in either Understanding Unconscious Bias or Food Handler.

All are welcome to take part in these customer service seminars. Eligibility for funding through a U.P. Michigan Works! program is determined by factors such as income.

Employers who are interested in having their staff take part are also encouraged to contact Megan Boddy or their local Business Services Specialist for details.

Job seekers can fill out an eligibility form by navigating to the News and Events page on upmichiganworks.org, clicking on the event they’d like to attend, and clicking on the bit.ly link. A UPMW staff member will contact them regarding their eligibility status. Job seekers are not enrolled in the training until approved by UPMW staff.

This event is presented by the OneUP Collaborative, the Hospitality Training Institute of Michigan and the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association.
