George named Schoolcraft Tourism and Commerce director

MANISTIQUE — Schoolcraft Tourism and Commerce has appointed Victoria George as its new executive director. George brings a wealth of experience to the role, with a background in both the business and nonprofit sectors, officials said.

George has served as president of the Eva Burrell Animal Shelter (EBAS) for several years, where she successfully led multiple renovation projects and expanded programs for pet owners and care programs for homeless animals within the community. Prior to her work in the nonprofit sector, George has worked for leading national and global companies such as OfficeMax, Integrated Logistics Systems, and LuK, Inc.

In addition to her professional experience, George has a strong track record of involvement in commerce and civic initiatives in and around Schoolcraft County, including volunteer work at the Seney National Wildlife Refuge Welcome Center, participation in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Schoolcraft County, and serving as CBC Schoolcraft County co-chair for three years.

George holds a bachelor of science from Kent State University, and currently resides on the Garden Peninsula with her husband Kelly, former CEO of mBank, her two great Pyrenees, Ariel and Leo, and her English bulldog, Kane.

“George’s appointment comes at an exciting time for the organization as it works to outline long-term goals and strategies designed to expand its impact on the community with a focus on economic development in Schoolcraft County,” a press release stated

“Our board of directors is thrilled to bring an executive of Victoria’s caliber to our organization,” said Jennifer C Watson, STC board chair. “Her wealth of experience in both the business and nonprofit sectors, along with her drive to succeed, make her the clear choice to lead the organization.”

“I am excited to transition to this new leadership role with STC after ten plus years at EBAS,” said George. “I look forward to fostering a proactive collaborative culture between both the business community and civic leaders to help move Schoolcraft County forward in terms of sustained economic growth for years to come.”
