Column: Chamber plans Roaring 20’s Non-Event

ESCANABA — There are plenty of things we could say about life during the past 15 months. But, in our ever-present glass half-full Chamber of Commerce mentality, I choose to focus on the positive. The past 15 months have shown our community’s strength, tenacity, and ability to pivot and adapt to change. We have also seen people step up and show up to support so many deserving causes.

Each February the Chamber holds a fundraising gala to help raise non dues revenue. We are grateful that the event was held in 2020, before life as we knew it changed completely. In 2021, we were not so lucky. We postponed the event to May to coincide with vaccination availability and subsequent reduction in restrictions, but unfortunately a March/April spike in cases did not allow for this to come to fruition.

So, we adapt and pivot! Enter- A Roaring 20’s Non-Event. It is true that we value our members greatly and love to see them, but we were aware there would be some (understandably) hesitancy to attend an in-person event. A non-event fundraiser is a way to raise money by promoting an event that you are not having. It calls on supporters to take into consideration all that they would spend supporting an in-person event and determine a level of sponsorship that makes sense for that business or individual.

The Roaring 20’s Non-Event has opportunities for everyone. A $50 contribution gets an entry into a drawing for $1000, while a $75 contribution gets a prize entry and a delicious heat and serve delivered meal from Wiles Food Service. The meal will feature, Shrimp Cocktail, Salad, Bourbon Beef Tips and Tuxedo 7-layer Torte. There are quantity discounts for tickets and additional sponsorship levels ranging from $300-$800.

Non-dues revenue is vitally important to the Chamber of Commerce. It helps keeps our membership dues low, while increasing our capacity to provide a healthy business environment and to promote Delta County, to make it a better community in which to live and transact business.

So, if you are interested in promoting yourself or a business while at the same time supporting the chamber and having a chance to win $1000, we welcome you to step up by NOT showing up!

We are truly thankful to those members who have already pledged their support. OSF St. Francis Hospital, Anderson,Tackman & Company, PLC, Culligan of Upper Peninsula, Escanaba Country Club, Delta County EDA, First Bank, Knudsen Dentistry, Verso, U.P.utt Family Fun Center, Doug & Vicki Leisenring and Kelly & Brett Jefferson.
