Menominee Granite Co. marks 100 years

MENOMINEE — Menominee Granite Co. (MGC) is celebrating 100 years of business with new owners Todd Schloegel and Christina Matty. They purchased the business along with Standard Monument (Marinette, Wis.) from Joe and Carla Wagner in January 2018.

MGC manufactures granite monuments and memorials at its Menominee plant with state of the art CAD design and sandblasting equipment. Since 1919 MCG has been selling, installing and maintaining granite monuments across the U.P. and Northeastern Wisconsin. Over 300 different cemeteries to be more precise.

“Last year we were in Ontonagon, Big Bay and Paradise doing installations. That describes our area,” Schloegel said. MGC has sales reps in Munising, Newberry, Escanaba, and Eagle River, Wis.

“Spring is crazy busy with production and installations due to winter order build up and Memorial Day being a factor. The last few springs have dealt us some weather challenges but that’s to be expected in the U.P.,” said Schloegel.

“We have a great team and a proven system that allows us to excel in our industry. Customers appreciate our approach and they like the fact that the owners are hands on with design, production and installation” says co-owner Christina Matty.
