Island Resort and Casino captures top magazine awards
HARRIS — The Island Resort & Casino once again garnered numerous awards from casino industry magazines. Island garnered nine “Best of Dining & Nightlife” Awards from the readers of Casino Player Magazine for the Midwest Region, and eight “Readers’ Choice Awards” from Midwest Gaming and Destinations.
As a premier resort destination, the Island’s customer centered focus keeps them top of mind for visitors, as evidenced by the designation for “Best Overall Service” in Casino Player.
“It’s very gratifying to be recognized by the readers of these well-known publications,” said Tony Mancilla, Island Resort & Casino’s General Manager. “The Island Resort & Casino is truly a total resort experience and we are gratified by the support of our Midwest guests.” he said.
Five of the awards in Casino Player Magazine were in the Dining categories, including Best Variety of Restaurants: Island Resort & Casino; Most Romantic Restaurant: Firekeeper’s Restaurant; Best Pizza: Signature Subs & Pizza; Best Late-Night Dining: Coral Reef Grille; Best Sports Bar: T. McC’s Sports Bar.
“I’m very proud of our great team of employees,” said Stephan Gakstatter, Food & Beverage Director. “Our kitchen staff takes pride in the dishes they prepare, and our wait staff consistently delivers friendly service that helps create an inviting atmosphere.”
The Island Resort and Casino was also recognized as a choice destination for nighttime entertainment in three of Casino Player’s categories: Best Comedy Club: Club Four One; and Best Night Club: Club Four One; and Best Place for Cocktails: 5 Bridges Pub.
In the “Readers’ Choice Awards” from Midwest Gaming and Destinations, over 20,000 votes were tallied to determine the best casinos in nine states by category. Island Resort & Casino ranked best in Michigan for “Restaurant,” “Buffet,” “Pool,” “Casino Personnel,” “Customer Service,” Player’s Club,” and “Theme.” Additionally, Sweetgrass Golf Club earned the “Golf Course” award.
Since it opened in 2008, Sweetgrass has earned multiple awards, including 2019’s top ten ranking from Golfweek Magazine’s “Best Courses You Can Play in Michigan.”
“We’re especially proud of our popularity among golfers,” Mancilla said. He noted that Sage Run Golf Club, the Island’s second Paul Albanese-designed golf course, opens for its first full season this spring and is quickly gaining attention for being dramatically different from Sweetgrass, but equally exceptional.
