Meijer sets Marquette store opening

GRAND RAPIDS — Meijer confirmed May 24 is the opening date for a new 195,000-square-foot supercenter in Marquette, Regional Vice President Gerald Melville announced today.

Melville said company leadership and local dignitaries will dedicate the store’s first day of business with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new Marquette supercenter is the third store the retailer has opened in the Upper Peninsula, and one of six new supercenters opening in Michigan. Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana this year.

“Since opening our first Upper Peninsula stores last year in Escanaba and Sault Ste. Marie, local residents have welcomed us with open arms and responded positively to the fresh grocery and new shopping options we offer,” Melville said. “We’re proud to bring another store to the UP and look forward to opening day with our new neighbors.”

While weekly Meijer sales at the new supercenter begin when doors open at 7 a.m. on May 24, the store will also feature special promotions and events as part of its grand opening celebration, beginning June 3.

The Meijer gas station for the store will officially open on April 26.
