Northern Sun Winery wins awards

BARK RIVER — Northern Sun Winery has been notified of its recent Best of Class awards from the 2017 Harvest Challenge in Sonoma, Calif. Along with the Best of Class the Bark River area winery also received two silver and one bronze medals for its entries.

Earning the Best of Class awards were their 2016 Northern Sun Sur-Lie Frog each won a silver medal and a 2016 Northern Sun Sole Di Sera won a bronze medal.

The Harvest Challenge had over 1,025 entries this year, from Canada, New York, Argentina, Australia and all parts in between including the Upper Peninsula. They awarded 54 best of class, 37 double gold, and 145 gold medals.

Northern Sun Winery of Bark River, is owned and run by Dave and Susan Anthony. Founded in June of 2012 they produce cold climate estate grown grapes on 5.5 acres. Wine tasting and tours are available during the summer and during the fall and winter their hours are Thursday through Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. EST through Christmas or by chance appointment. Wines are also available at Pats Super Valu in Gladstone,. Made in Marquette or at Upper Peninsula Inspired in Munising.

They also hold concerts in the vineyard during the summer and encourage local volunteers to help with the harvest, building community spirit and investment into the winery and its wines.
