Leigh’s Garden Winery wins gold medals

ESCANABA – Leigh’s Garden Winery, Inc. of Escanaba has received five gold medals for its wine. The awards were given Aug. 18 at the Minnesota Grape Growers Association sponsored International Cold Climate Wine Competition The winery won two gold medals and three bronze medals for wines it had entered into competition.

The entire list of winning wineries and information on the competition can be found posted on the Leigh’s Garden Winery Facebook page.

This marks the fifth year the winery has have entered the competition and the second time it walked away with five medals.

The winery specializes in cold climate grape wines at the winery and tasting room, located at 904 Ludington St., Escanaba.

“Based upon the results of this year’s competition, which included a silver medal for Northern Sun Winery in Bark River, the quality of wines being produced from cold climate grapes appears to have improved, as indicated by the long list of medal winners. We are pleased to represent the city of Escanaba and the state of Michigan (and Wisconsin, from which many of our winery’s grapes are sourced) by producing medal winning wines in this international competition,” the winery stated in a press release.
