GLADSTONE -- Hope on the Horizon 906 is excited to announce that the first annual PumpKEN Festival, taking place in Gladstone, will be raising awareness for and donating its proceeds to the organization and their efforts.
It will be held on Saturday, October 17 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Gladstone Ski Hill Chalet, located at 900 North Bluff Drive. There will be a pumpkin carving and decorating contest, food and beverages, games for the kids, face painting, basket raffles and prizes. Live music by Big Al and the Tomata's will fill the air from 5 until 7 p.m. Costumes are optional but encouraged.
There is an admission charge to attend the event, with different rates for children older than five and entire families. Children under the age of five are free. The admission charge includes all activities at the festival.
Proceeds from the PumpKEN Festival will go toward providing transitional housing for our neighbors who are facing homelessness. It is being held in memory of Ken Curtis who passed away two years ago. Ken was a proud member of the United Steelworkers union and served in numerous leadership roles for Local 21, fighting for employees at Billerud. But he fought for and valued everyone. Ken would have retired this fall and was looking forward to volunteering. This cause would have been the perfect fit because pumpkins and the fall season were favorites of his.
