ESCANABA -- Local P.E.O. Chapter EE recently awarded its annual scholarships to Bay College students Destiny Lopez and Riley Flynn, supporting their continued pursuit of higher education.

Lopez, a resident of Escanaba, was selected as the recipient of the Ruthie Vinette Scholarship, named in honor of one of Chapter EE's founding members. She is currently studying mathematics at Bay College and plans to transfer to Central Michigan University to continue her education.

Flynn, a resident of Grand Marais, is attending Bay College and Lake Superior State University as she works toward a degree in elementary education.

Both Lopez and Flynn are members of TRIO Student Support Services at Bay College, a federally funded program that supports students who are traditionally underrepresented in higher education and helps them successfully navigate their college experience and work toward degree completion.

Over the years, P.E.O. Chapter EE and Bay College TRIO Student Support Services have developed a reciprocal relationship centered on supporting local students and expanding access to educational opportunities.

P.E.O. is a philanthropic educational organization dedicated to celebrating the advancement of women and helping women achieve their educational goals. Through scholarships and other forms of educational support, Chapter EE is proud to continue that mission by investing in women pursuing higher education in our local communities.

Chapter EE congratulates Destiny and Riley on their accomplishments and wishes them continued success as they work toward their educational and career goals.
