ESCANABA - The Upper Peninsula Sportsmen's Alliance (UPSA) proudly presented an appreciation plaque to outgoing President Dave Johnson on August 29, 2026, to acknowledge his exceptional hard work and dedication. Johnson has successfully guided the organization for the past seven years.
Leading UPSA is a massive undertaking, as the alliance represents 49 clubs and associate businesses with a combined membership of approximately 50,000 outdoor enthusiasts across the region.
Throughout his tenure, Johnson's dedication to conservation and sportsmen’s rights has been evident through his extensive service on Department of Natural Resources (DNR) advisory committees and specialized workgroups. His critical committee roles have included:
· The Upper Peninsula Habitat Workgroup
· The Western Citizens Advisory Committee (Fisheries and Wildlife committees)
· The Lake Superior Fisheries Advisory Committee
· The Bear Forum
Beyond his leadership at UPSA, Johnson is a past president and current member of Wildlife Unlimited of Dickinson County, and he continues to serve as the treasurer of the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association.
Over the last seven years, Johnson spent countless hours traveling downstate to attend Natural Resources Commission meetings. He has maintained a continuous, collaborative relationship with DNR personnel, consistently advocating on behalf of U.P. sportsmen to protect and improve hunting, fishing, and all outdoor recreational pursuits.
