MENOMINEE -- West Shore Fishing Museum is open for its final weekend of the summer September 5 & 6 from 1-4 p.m. Central Time. The museum is the restored 23-acre homestead of a commercial fishing family with both indoor and outdoor exhibits, including seven commercial fishing vessels.
Sunday, September 6, is the summer finale. Miniature horse Chocolate Chip will offer cart rides. 3 Golden Floats will be hidden on our trails in an activity open to those 12 and younger. Finding one and turning it in is worth a $25 cash prize.
The new Williams-Ruleau Visitor Center will be open with an amazing display of 150 photos that tell the story of fishing on the West Shore. Other activities include a bucket raffle, reduced prices on perennials, and a sale in the Gift Shop.
Visitors can explore the beach, nature trails, and boardwalk. Touring the restored Victorian home, exhibit buildings, and peaceful grounds offers a glimpse of life in the previous century. Bailey Park, next door to the museum, has an expansive sand beach.
The museum is actively collecting commercial fishing pictures, stories, and artifacts. Families who have such items are invited to bring them.
Admission is free. Most of the museum is handicapped accessible and dog friendly. It's the perfect place for a multi-generational family to spend an afternoon stepping back into the past and exploring nature.
