Pop-up shop helps animal shelter

Students Raise $460 for Eva Burrell Animal Shelter Through the Lime Slime Pop-Up Shop at SCFA Kids Camp

SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY, Mich. - Limestone Financial Credit Union (Limestone FCU) and the Limestone Legacy Foundation recently partnered with the Schoolcraft County Fair Administration (SCFA) to host a Lime Slime Pop-Up Shop at Kids Camp that empowered local students through hands-on learning, entrepreneurship, creativity, and community service.

After completing the project, the students chose to donate all profits from Lime Slime to the Eva Burrell Animal Shelter. Their fundraising efforts generated $230, and Limestone Financial Credit Union proudly matched the donation, bringing the total contribution to $460.

The Kids Camp provided students with engaging opportunities to develop leadership skills, work as a team, and make a positive impact in their community. Younger campers, ages 4-10, participated in community-focused projects, including painting rocks, creating posters featuring positive messages, and making thank you cards for teachers. The students then helped distribute their creations throughout the community to spread kindness and encouragement.

Junior campers, ages 10 and older, took part in a unique entrepreneurship experience by creating and operating their own business, Lime Slime. Students played an active role in every stage of the venture, from developing the business name and logo concepts to creating slime and bracelet products, packaging merchandise, and selling items at both the Schoolcraft County Fair and the JOY Music Festival.

Throughout the process, campers gained valuable real-world business experience, including product development, marketing, pricing, sales, customer service, money management, and making change. Their teamwork, creativity, and dedication resulted in a successful business venture and gave them a firsthand understanding of what it takes to operate a small business.

“The Lime Slime Pop-Up Shop was a wonderful opportunity for students to learn important life and business skills while giving back to the community,” said Kiarra Herson, Member Education Coordinator, at Limestone FCU. “We are proud of the creativity, enthusiasm, and generosity these young entrepreneurs demonstrated throughout the program. Their decision to support the Eva Burrell Animal Shelter reflects the caring spirit of our community and the impact young people can make when given the opportunity.”
