ESCANABA -- The Michigan State Universary Forestry Innovation Center will be hosting a free Wildlife Forestry Field Day on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the MSU Forestry Innovation Center, 6005 J Rd., Escanaba.
Tailored specifically for do-it-yourself landowners across the Upper Peninsula, the event will feature practical demonstrations and educational sessions on managing forested land and food plots, including:
— Utilizing skid trails to one’s advantage.
— tree planting options following a timber harvest (tree selection, planting, protection from deer, chemical control of weeds, realistic expectations.
— Bear baiting 101, detailing state rules, regulations, and techniques for success
— Implementing “throw and grow” food plots to navigate recent tree stumps
— Planning and executing salvage harvests of dead or dying ash trees to enhance wildlife food plot options.
— Small-scale equipment demonstrations.
— An introductory trapping demonstration.
Lunch will be provided for attendees who pre-register. Space is limited, and the deadline to register is Thursday, Sept. 3, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
