ESCANABA -- The Delta County Cancer Alliance is launching three upcoming opportunities for residents to support local family members, friends and neighbors undergoing cancer treatments.
Gayle DeShambo, cancer alliance president, extended appreciation to local donors who allow the organization to continue its work supporting patients.
“In a time when the cost of living and running a business has never been more challenging, I am proud to be a part of this community of giving and sharing to support others,” DeShambo said.
Skradski Funeral Home has donated $2,500 to cover the expenses for the upcoming Gold Envelope Campaign. Last year, the campaign was sponsored by Crawford Funeral Home and allowed the alliance to provide nearly $20,000 back to Delta County clients. Residents can look for the gold envelopes in the August 8 print edition of the Daily Press.
The alliance will also begin its annual raffle ticket sales in November. Organizers extended appreciation to Krussin Klassics for donating the $1,000 first-place prize, the Delta County Community Foundation for the $500 second-place prize, and St. Thomas Bingo for the $300 third-place prize. DeShambo also gave kudos to local media, including the Daily Press, Radio Results Network and Escanaba Radio Group, for helping inform the public of alliance events.
Additionally, the organization is developing a community-wide Round Up Campaign. The initiative will allow local businesses to encourage patrons to round up their final purchase amounts to cumulatively support the alliance.
DeShambo says the great thing about this campaign is the DCCA does not have to ask local businesses for donations just to be a vessel to round up customer purchases. Additionally, the DCCA doesn’t have to ask patrons for large donations, instead just a round up to whatever each individual is comfortable with.
