ESCANABA – Bay College is currently displaying an exhibition called “Explorations Near and Far” featuring acrylic painter Jen Grant.

An artist talk and reception is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in the Hartwig Gallery on the Bay College’s Escanaba campus. The exhibition will be on display from Aug. 27 to Oct. 1. The event is free and open to the public.

Grant's journey is a story of rediscovery. After earning a BFA in Drawing and Painting from Northern Michigan University in 1998, she stepped away from the canvas for over 20 years. In the fall of 2023, she picked up the brush again and hasn’t been able to put it down since.

Working with acrylic paint on canvas, Grant's current collection, "Explorations Near and Far," captures the energy of this new chapter.

“These pieces use vibrant colors and rich textures to interpret landscapes both familiar and distant,” reads a portion of Grant’s artist statement. “Through my work, I invite viewers to explore the world with a renewed sense of curiosity, proving it is never too late to return to your creative purpose.”

Questions about the artist or exhibition may be directed to Bay College Art Faculty and Fine Arts Coordinator Kristine Hunter at 906-217-4252 or kristine.hunter@baycollege.edu.
