YMCA fall football registration to open

ESCANABA – The Northern Lights YMCA has announced that registration for its popular Fall Football programs opens to everyone on Monday. Families are encouraged to register early, as both programs fill quickly and space is limited.

The YMCA offers two exciting football opportunities designed to introduce young athletes to the game while emphasizing fun, teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill development.

Pee Wee Football is an instructional program for children ages four to six. Young players will learn the fundamentals of football through age-appropriate drills, games, and activities in a positive, encouraging environment. The focus is on building confidence, coordination, and a love for the game. No prior experience is necessary.

For older youth, the YMCA’s Flag Football League is open to students in grades first through six. Players will practice fundamental football skills while enjoying non-contact competition in a league divided into three grade divisions: Grades first through second, third through fourth and fifth through sixth. Teams are coached by dedicated volunteers who help athletes develop their skills, build friendships, and learn the values of teamwork and good sportsmanship.

“These are two of our largest youth sports programs each year,” said Raquel Schon, Youth, Family, Sports & Day Camp director. “We encourage families to register as soon as registration opens because once our leagues are full, we cannot guarantee a spot.”

The YMCA is also seeking volunteer coaches and game referees for the upcoming season. No previous coaching or officiating experience is required. The YMCA provides support, resources, and guidance to help volunteers succeed. Parents, grandparents, high school and college students and community members are all encouraged to get involved.

Volunteer coaches and referees play an essential role in creating a fun, safe and positive experience for every child while helping young athletes build confidence both on and off the field.

Registration is available online at nlymca.com/delta or in person at the Northern Lights YMCA.
