ESCANABA - Veterans who were previously told they don't qualify for VA health care now have new options, thanks to recent changes under the PACT Act. The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center outreach and enrollment team will be at Manistique High School on Aug. 12 to help Veterans review their eligibility and sign up for health care benefits.
The event, which runs from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium at 100 S. Cedar St., is being held in partnership with Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital's Community Resource Fair.
The PACT Act, signed into law in 2022, significantly expands eligibility for VA health care. Many Veterans who were previously denied may now qualify for benefits--including free hearing aids and eyeglasses, reduced health care costs, and affordable prescriptions. Medication co-payments start at $8 and are capped at $33, with most Veterans paying little or nothing out-of-pocket.
Veterans and their families are encouraged to attend, especially those who have never enrolled or registered with the VA. Staff will be on hand to answer questions, review eligibility, and help with on-the-spot enrollment.
Attendees should bring their DD214, last year's income information, marriage date if married, and the date of birth and Social Security number for any dependents.
