What truly dreams are made of…

Recently I was met with a question, "What do you want to be remembered for?" Now this is deep and introspective for everyone to consider.

What do I want to be remembered for? I want people to remember me now if I meet them on the street as a genuine kind person. I want to be remembered as a great mom, caring, kind and welcoming. As a good wife and over all as a person you could turn to if you need a friend.

But I realized as I wrote all those things down that they all had a singular thing in common. Those were all things I hoped other people would remember me for because I was of service to them.

Not a single thing on the list was something I personally would have dreamed of being when I was ten. Not a single thing was a hope, dream or personal accomplishment. So here’s the moment where I said well where did my dreams, ambitions and hopes go?

Why be remembered as kind, a good wife or a great mother if I didn’t live life to reflect a dream or hope I had. Why show my children the only thing in life to strive for would be to be useful for others?

Now I'm not saying those things are bad at all or you shouldn’t strive to be all of the above but rather to remember to also take a second to live for yourself. It’s okay to want to be a good mother and be a published author. Or a great friend but also a black belt in karate.

Let’s take a minute and write down three things to take a chance on. Adult dance classes, karate lessons, maybe writing a book or a column? And remember that life may be short but sprinkling in a little fun and adventure, having silly goals that fill your heart with pride that’s all important to.

So add a little whimsy to your day, stop by the dance studio and sign up for a dance class, take a moment and write a short story. And smile because it’s okay to live for today
