KINGSFORD -- To honor the life and enduring impact of a beloved educator/school counselor/coach,athlete, and devoted mother, the family of Ginger Kay (Weber) Moore has officially established The Ginger Kay Weber Moore Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior at Kingsford High School who exemplifies outstanding character, compassion, leadership, perseverance, and a sincere commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others. While academic achievement is recognized, the primary intent of the award is to celebrate the personal qualities that defined Ginger's life, including integrity, kindness, faith, and dedicated service to others.
Ginger passed away on April 22, 2026, after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer. A standout scholar-athlete, she was a 1994 graduate of Gladstone High School, where she was inducted into the school’s inaugural Sports Hall of Fame. She earned a full athletic basketball scholarship to Northern Michigan University, graduating magna cum laude with a teaching degree and earning the honor of Student Teacher of the Year. She later earned her Master's Degree in Guidance Counseling from NMU.
Throughout her career as a teacher, guidance counselor, and coach, Ginger dedicated her life to guiding young people, helping students see their own worth and potential. Beyond her professional achievements, she was known for her boundless energy, her active spirit, and her deep devotion as the ultimate supporter of her husband, Chris, and her two children, Gavin and Aubrie. Her family expressed that Ginger had a unique gift for seeing the value in every person and living each day with purpose and warmth, and this scholarship was created to ensure her spirit continues to support, inspire, and lift up Kingsford High School students for generations to come.
Eligible graduating seniors will have an opportunity to apply later in the school year when the application will be posted on the KHS Scholarship page. Selection will place strong emphasis on character, compassion, and living out core values alongside academic effort.
Individuals wishing to contribute to the fund can mail donations to Kingsford High School, Attn: Jamie Lockhart, 431 Hamilton Ave, Kingsford, MI 49802. Checks should be made payable to Kingsford High School with “Ginger Kay Weber Moore Memorial Scholarship” noted in the memo line.
