ESCANABA — Escanaba Elks #354 received two grants from the Elks National Foundation to purchase food, hygiene and some basic necessities for area schools. The schools were contacted to see what their students’ needs were before ten Elks volunteered to shop and deliver these items.

Items ranged from things such as easy, ready made meals to chapstick, deodorant, laundry soap, shampoo, body soap, feminine hygiene products, socks, underwear and sweatpants.

“We believe that by getting these items to our local youth, they will know they are valued and cared for by their community, while increasing their self-esteem and helping them with food security,” said Kelly Arnold, an Escanaba Elks member.

The schools that received these items were Big Bay de Noc, Rapid River, Mid Peninsula, Gladstone, Escanaba Student Success Center, Escanaba Learning Center, Webster, Lemmer, Escanaba Upper Elementary, Escanaba Junior/Senior High, Bark River-Harris, Holy Name Catholic School and Hannahville.
