U.P. Children’s Museum hosts crafts & custard

MARQUETTE – For its “Second Thursday Creativity Series,” the Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum at 123 W. Baraga Ave. in Marquette is hosting “Magical Mindfulness and Me!” today from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Experience hands-on craft activities, music, and free Culver’s frozen custard. Participation is also free.  

St. Thomas sets pasty sale

ESCANABA — The pasty sale at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1820 Ninth Ave. N., will continue today. Pickup time is between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. There will be no early sales – first come, first served.

Annual grant applications to the Rotary Club of Marquette Harbor

MARQUETTE – The Rotary Club of Marquette Harbor is offering competitive grants for up to $15,000 during 2026 to tax exempt organizations in Marquette County. All applications must be received before Friday. Youth-centered projects are preferred.

Cameron spaghetti fundraiser

GLADSTONE – The largest fundraiser of the year for Gladstone Area Schools’ Cameron Elementary is Friday. It’s a spaghetti dinner held at the Gladstone High School from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cost for adults is low, and children under 12 eat free. There will be basket raffles, a 50/50 drawing, and prizes. All proceeds benefit the Cameron PTO, students, staff, and community. This event is open to the public.

Trivia and Tacos

St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish will be having their monthly “Trivia and Tacos” night Saturday at 709 1st Ave. S. in the basement of the church. Teams of two to six players are welcome to play. Registration begins at 5 p.m. with the first round scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. There will be a taco/nacho bar with snacks and beverages available to purchase. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place teams. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Bonifas art classes

ESCANABA — Registration is open for classes at the Bonifas Arts Center, located at 700 1st Ave. S. To attend couples cooking date night, held with Lisette LaFave and Andrew Blowers on March 13 from 5 to 8 p.m., people must register before today’s end. Friday is the deadline to register to make paper mache eggs with Caitlin Kirchenwitz from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday. To enroll in a photography class with Rachel Branstrom, held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, attendees must register by March 19. Great Lakes Youth Pool Tournament

ESCANABA – Crazy Joe’s will be hosting their 36th annual Great Lakes Youth Pool Tournament on Saturday at 12 p.m. There is no entry fee.

The event, open to any boy or girl age eight to 20, will take place in Crazy Joe’s pool hall, 224 Stephenson Ave. The tournament will be played in an 8-ball format with double elimination across 10 tables.

There are three age divisions: eight to 12, 13 to 16 and 17 to 20. First through third place trophies will be awarded in each division as well as a custom cue and case will be awarded to first place division winners. Everyone has a chance to win a gift card, one for male entrant and one for female entrant.

All entrants age 12 to 16 must bring a copy of their birth certificate or driver’s license to the tournament. Kids must register before 11 a.m.

Rocks Lions & Legion breakfast

ESCANABA – The Rock Lions and Legion will be hosting a St. Patrick’s Day breakfast buffet Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon (note the new hours) at the club, 14454 M-35 in Rock.

There is a fee for the buffet, which includes screamed eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, biscuit & sausage gravy, pancakes, french toast and a selection of desserts. Drinks include coffee, milk and juice.

The Rock Lions Club is a non-profit service organization that provides funding for charitable organizations and local needs.

Memorial UMC to host speakers

GLADSTONE – At Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 1920 Lake Shore Dr. in Gladstone, a “soup and speaker” series will be held on Wednesday evenings in March.

On Wednesday, Kristine Paulsen will present on “Take the Challenge: Healthy Media”; March 18 will feature speaker Julie Mallard from the United Way on school readiness; Bob Hazed, elder of Lac Vieux Desert Chippewa Tribe and boarding school survivor, will speak on the 25th.

Soup supper is at 5:30 p.m. Speakers go on at 6 p.m. The public is invited at no charge.

Congressional forum

ESCANABA – A forum for voters to “meet the candidates” racing for Michigan’s First Congressional District — currently held by Jack Bergman — will be held March 19 at 7 p.m. in room 952 of Bay College’s Heirman Center. Candidates in attendance are expected to be Democrat Wayne Stiles, Republican Justin Michal, Independent Zebulon Featherly and Democrat Kyle Blomquist.

Relationship seminar

ESCANABA – The Escanaba SDA Church, 210 South Lincoln Road, will be hosting a three-part relationship seminar held by Ron Price, MA, on Friday, Mar. 27 at 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Mar. 28 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Price is the author of three books in the “Play Nice in Your Sandbox” series. He has been a mediator for over 35 years, a life and relationship coach since 2002 and is also the host of the Relationship CPR program heard weekly on Strong Tower Radio at 90.9 FM.

Cancer benefit

RAPID RIVER – A cancer benefit for Jake Kossow will be held at the Rapid River Lions Club on Saturday, Mar. 28 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Kossow has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and stage 4 liver cancer. He is currently being treated at OSF St. Francis Hospital and Mayo Clinic with chemotherapy and various scans and tests. The benefit aims to help offset Kossow’s medical expenses and traveling costs.

Pulled pork and coleslaw will be available for purchase. A bake sale, 50/50 raffle and bucket raffles will be featured, as well.

The Spring Expo will take place Friday, April 10 through Sunday, April 12. In previous years, the Spring Expo was known as the Home and Garden Show. The name change reflects the growth and evolution of the event to a celebration of everything the area offers as it moves toward spring.

ESCANABA – The Delta Animal Shelter is in need of the following donations; Purina Cat Chow (blue bag), Purina Kitten Chow (yellow bag), NutriSource chicken/rice dog food, Purina One chicken/rice dog food, canned dog food, canned cat/kitten food, soft dog treats, scoopable cat litter, clay cat litter, bleach, liquid Lysol, paper towels, dish soap, garbage bags, power laundry detergent, hand sanitizer and dog collars/leashes.

Donations can be dropped off at the shelter, 6975 County Road, 426 M 5, during business hours of 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or outside the building in their donation box.

ESCANABA — The Escanaba High School Class of 1976 has scheduled its 50th reunion for Sept. 26 at the Highland Golf Course.

Donations sought for book sale

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale at the Waterfront Art Festival.

They are also in need of large print books, which are often requested. Funds from the annual sale are used to publish Voter Guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. The league is not able to accept and store large quantities of books and requests the books meet the donation criteria.

Books can be delivered during normal business hours to the Ludington Centre, 1112 Ludington St. Donors are asked to use the 11th Street entrance, Suite 208, and look for the league’s sign. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 906-280-1789.
