Breakfast at St. Thomas church

ESCANABA — St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1820 Ninth Ave. N. in Escanaba, will serve breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The menu includes eggs, sausage, potatoes, toast, pancakes, applesauce, juice and coffee. The public is welcome.

Bethany Lutheran free store opening

ESCANABA — Bethany Lutheran Church, 202 S. 11th St. in Escanaba, will open its free store to the public from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Cleaning, hygiene, paper, baby products and more will be available at no cost. There are no eligibility requirements — anyone in need is invited to register with Bethany Lutheran’s volunteers on site. Those attending are asked to use the circle drive entrance to enter.

Delta Dems to meet

ESCANABA — The Delta Democrats will host a speaker and discussion at its regular meeting from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the United Steelworkers Hall, 1201 Sheridan Road, Escanaba.

Bay closed Thursday morning

ESCANABA – The Bay College Escanaba campus will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eastern time Thursday to allow staff to attend on-campus in-service training. Regular office hours will resume at 1 p.m. Eastern time.

Lunch, bingo in Cornell

CORNELL — The Cornell Township Hall Seniors monthly luncheon and bingo will take place Thursday, with doors opening at 11 a.m. at the hall, 9794 Boney Falls H Road. Those planning to attend should note this is a week after the usual first Thursday of the month meeting.

Delta GOP to meet

ESCANABA — The Delta County Republicans will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in room 421 of the BHAT Building on the Bay College Escanaba Campus. The group will discuss local issues and share upcoming events and ways to get involved. The public is welcome to attend.

Special service at St. Stephen’s

ESCANABA — St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 500 Ogden Ave., will host a Holy Eucharist Worship Service with the Rev. Mo Trimm at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 11. The event will celebrate the New Year with an offertory of “Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme” (Sleepers Awake) by J.S. Bach with soloists Glenn Bengry on trumpet and Leonore Hall on piano. This service will be followed by quiche, coffee and a mini bake sale of assorted goods by Dawn Martin. The public is invited to attend.

Elks monthly brunch Jan. 11

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Elks will have its monthly brunch from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11. As always, the public is invited.

Dance in Rock on Jan. 11

ROCK — Rock Community/Senior Center, 3892 W. Maple Ridge Road, will host a dance from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, with Country Express providing live music. All proceeds will benefit the center’s senior corporation.

Local Parkinson support group

ESCANABA — The Michigan Parkinson Foundation support group for Escanaba and the surrounding areas meets on the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Community Action Agency, 507 First Ave. N., Escanaba. St. Thomas sets pasty sale

ESCANABA — St. Thomas the Apostle Church will have a pasty sale Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 14 and 15. Pasties can be with or without rutabaga. Pickup will be between 3 and 5 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis at the church, 1820 Ninth Ave. N. in Escanaba.

Gladstone church offers clothing

GLADSTONE — The Memorial United Methodist Church, 1920 Lake Shore Drive in Gladstone, has a free clothes closet with coats, and shoes available in most sizes. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays or by appointment by calling 906-428-9311. Donations are also accepted.

Escanaba Class of ’76 reunion

ESCANABA — The Escanaba High School Class of 1976 has scheduled its 50th reunion for Sept. 26 at the Highland Golf Course.

A schedule of events for the weekend and registration materials will be provided on the class Facebook page, Escanaba Class of 1976, or by email.

Donations sought for book sale

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale at the Waterfront Art Festival.

They are also in need of large print books, which are often requested. Funds from the annual sale are used to publish Voter Guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. The league is not able to accept and store large quantities of books and requests the books meet the donation criteria.

Books can be delivered during normal business hours to the Ludington Centre, 1112 Ludington St. Donors are asked to use the 11th Street entrance, Suite 208, and look for the league’s sign. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 906-280-1789.
