Holiday raffle winding down

ESCANABA– The Delta County Cancer Alliance Holiday Raffle is winding down. The winners will be announced Monday, Dec. 1, with the grand prize of $1,000 just in time for holiday shopping.

A single ticket sells for $10 or three tickets for $20. Tickets are available for purchase at the Daily Press office and the Delta County Cancer Alliance, 3430 Ludington St. This fundraiser helps to support family, friends and neighbors in Delta County that are enduring the challenges of cancer.

Delta MARSP meet Tuesday

FLAT ROCK — The Delta County chapter of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, or MARSP, will have its next meeting at noon Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4011 20th Road in Flat Rock.

Chicken and spaghetti will be served. The association will be collecting used eyeglasses.

Free yoga session at library

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Public Library will host a free yoga session at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. This introduction to chair yoga with Martina Mileski is designed for every body — all ages, all mobility and all experience levels. No registration is required; participants can show up at the library, 400 Ludington St., just before start time.

Program on homeless awareness

ESCANABA — The Menominee-Delta-Schoolcraft Community Action Agency will host a Lunch & Learn as well as a donation drive to spread awareness about the homeless from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Escanaba Civic Center, 225 N. 21st St. November is National Homelessness Awareness Month.

MDSCAA suggests a donation of $8. The event will “share information about our services and how you can help a person in need,” according to the MDSCAA flyer for the event.

Elks Auxiliary meeting Thursday

ESCANABA — Delta County Unified will host a Meet & Greet with 38th District Michigan Senate candidate Chris Reynolds at 6 p.m. Friday at the United Steel Workers Local 21 Union Hall, 1201 Sheridan Road in Escanaba. Everyone is welcome to attend.

YMCA to have NERF event

ESCANABA — Northern Lights YMCA Delta Program Center will host NERF Night at the Turf for fourth through sixth grades from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hannahville Ice & Turf Complex. The cost will be $10 for YMCA members and $15 for non-members. The YMCA will provide the space, obstacles and supervision. Players should bring their own NERF gear — NERF guns, foam bullets, vest and goggles. All FOAM NERF equipment is welcome. Eye protection is required, and a limited amount of supplies will be available. Space is limited to 30 participants. Immanuel church rummage sale

ESCANABA — Immanuel Lutheran Church will have its annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 600 S. Lincoln Road, next to the Christian Park Center. Trivia and Tacos night Saturday

ESCANABA — St. Joseph & St. Patrick Parish will host a Trivia and Tacos night Saturday, Nov. 8, in the parish hall in the basement of the church, 709 First Ave. S. in Escanaba.

Teams of two to six players are eligible to win cash prizes. There will be a taco/nacho bar as well. Registration will begin at 5 p.m., with the first round beginning at 5:30 p.m. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Elks monthly brunch Sunday

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Elks will have its monthly brunch from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday. As always, the public is invited.

Dance in Rock on Sunday

ROCK — Rock Community/Senior Center, 3892 W. Mapleridge Road, will host a dance from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday with The Ghost Riders providing live music.

Soo Line engine group to meet

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Michigan Soo Line Steam Engine No. 730 Authority will have its monthly meeting at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at Solid Rock Church, 819 Delta Ave.

Volunteers helped install Christmas lights on the engine to be lit later this month. A site visit is planned Nov. 14 by the homeschoolers of the Community of Christ Church. Ideas will be discussed for a Christmas event as well.

Those in the community who wants to join the group are encouraged to attend.

Donations continue to be sought for perpetual care of the train into the future. New donations can be made for the future Gladstone/Soo Line Historical Museum, as land is still being sought and building plans are being formalized.

Donations sought for book sale

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale at the Waterfront Art Festival.

They are also in need of large print books, which are often requested. Funds from the annual sale are used to publish Voter Guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. The league is not able to accept and store large quantities of books and requests the books meet the donation criteria.

Books can be delivered during normal business hours to the Ludington Centre, 1112 Ludington St. Donors are asked to use the 11th Street entrance, Suite 208, and look for the league’s sign. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 906-280-1789.
