Steam engine to be scrubbed
GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Michigan Soo Line Steam Engine No. 730 Authority and friends plan to clean and scrub the engine alongside U.S. 2 starting at noon Wednesday. All are welcome to join and help. Brushes and buckets will be provided.
Lord’s Acre Auction on Saturday
FAYETTE – The annual Lord’s Acre Auction, hosted by the Fayette Congregational Church, will be Saturday at the Fairbanks Township Hall in Fayette.
This community tradition offers the perfect opportunity to kick off Christmas shopping while supporting a local cause.
The day begins with a bake sale at 11 a.m. that will feature an array of homemade treats. The auction will follow at 11:30 a.m., showcasing handcrafted items, quilts, wood projects, homemade jams and jellies and many other unique treasures.
The event is the Fayette Congregational Church’s only fundraiser of the year.
Organizers promise a fun-filled day for all ages. Everyone is welcome to attend, enjoy the fellowship and take home a special find–all while supporting a good cause.
Breakfast to benefit Honor Flight
RAPID RIVER — The American Legion Post 301 of Rapid River will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast to benefit the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday. Price for adults is $12; kids age 6 through 12, $5; and age 5 and younger can eat for free.
Elks monthly brunch Sunday
ESCANABA — The Escanaba Elks will have its monthly brunch from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12. As always, the public is invited.
St. Stephen’s piano recital
ESCANABA — St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will have a classical piano recital at 5 p.m. Sunday at 500 Ogden Ave. in Escanaba. Retired professional pianist Leonara Hall will perform works by Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy and Ginastera. New Parkinson group
ESCANABA — The Delta Parkinson support group, a new group affiliated with the Michigan Parkinson Foundation that serves the Escanaba and the surrounding areas, meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Community Action Agency, 507 First Ave. N. in Escanaba. St. Anthony’s pasty sale
ESCANABA — St. Anthony’s Church will have its final pasty sale of 2025 on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 16-17. Price is $6 each, with or without rutabaga. To preorder, call or text Debbie at 906-399-4259. Pickup will be at St. Thomas Church in Escanaba. Deliveries can be made to any Escanaba businesses. Limited extra pasties will be available in the late afternoon. The church will not have another pasty sale until April.
Free Bible class offered
ESCANABA — A free non-denominational course of studies, beginning with learning how to read the Bible with understanding, will take place on Thursday evenings starting Oct. 16 in room 963 of the Joseph Heirman University Center at Bay College, 2001 N. Lincoln Road in Escanaba.
The classes are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Early registration is strongly encouraged, as class size is limited.

YMCA to have NERF event
ESCANABA — Northern Lights YMCA Delta Program Center will host NERF Night at the Turf for fourth through sixth grades from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Hannahville Ice & Turf Complex. The cost will be $10 for YMCA members and $15 for non-members. The YMCA will provide the space, obstacles and supervision. Players bring their own NERF gear — NERF guns, foam bullets, vest and goggles. All FOAM NERF equipment is welcome. Eye protection is required, and a limited amount of supplies will be available.
