Eskymo meeting shifted

ESCANABA — The next meeting of the Eskymo Fan Club has been changed from this Monday to Monday, Sept. 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the Escanaba High School library.

Choral practices on Tuesdays

ESCANABA — The Bay de Noc Choral Society has resumed weekly practice from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at Bethany Lutheran Church, 202 S. 11th St., Escanaba,

The choral society continues to seek new members. It is a four-part singing group with openings in all parts. They are rehearsing for a Christmas concert scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at Bethany Lutheran Church. For more information, contact Patty at 906-789-1590.

Flu shot clinics set

ESCANABA — Public Health Delta and Menominee Counties’ mobile clinic is scheduled to be in the parking lot of the Delta County office, 2920 College Ave., from 1-4 p.m. Thursday.

No appointment is necessary. Medicare, Medicaid, Healthy Michigan and most private insurance can be billed, and most clients will have no out-of-pocket cost.

Public Health will also administer vaccine at employer sites upon request. To make an appointment at Public Health or schedule a clinic for a township or employer, call 906-786-4111 for Delta County or 906-863-4451 for Menominee County.

Players to open season

ESCANABA — The Players de Noc will open its season with six performances of “Don’t Mention My Name” starting Friday at Bay College’s Besse Theater, 2001 N. Lincoln Road in Escanaba.

The first performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday is in conjunction with a reception for the U.P. Arts and Cultural Alliance annual conference Saturday, Sept. 27.

Other show dates are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27; and Oct. 2, 3 and 4. A 1:30 p.m. matinee performance has been set for Sunday, Sept. 28.

Written by Fred Carmichael and directed by Laura Haagensen, “Don’t Mention My Name” is described on the Players de Doc website as “a delightful farce involving an amnesiac and mistaken identities in a remote bed and breakfast. It’s a feel-good way to start our season, full of twists, turns, and gags!”

Donations sought for book sale

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale at the Waterfront Art Festival.

They are also in need of large print books, which are often requested. Funds from the annual sale are used to publish Voter Guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. The league is not able to accept and store large quantities of books and requests the books meet the donation criteria.

Books can be delivered during normal business hours to the Ludington Centre, 1112 Ludington St. Donors are asked to use the 11th Street entrance, Suite 208, and look for the league’s sign. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 906-280-1789.

Downtown Day in Gladstone

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Downtown Development Authority will have its Downtown Day Celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.

The event will feature a street fair, sidewalk sales and farmers market, plus live music, giveaways, games and more. A fire truck will be on site, and kids can enjoy face painting, cotton candy, kids crafts, and family-friendly fun.

Fundraisers for train engine

GLADSTONE – The Gladstone Michigan Soo Line Steam Engine No. 730 Authority will be at Downtown Days on Saturday, Sept. 27, selling T-shirts, sweatshirts and coffee mugs to raise funds for the train along the highway.

Donations continue to be sought for perpetual care of the train, the future Gladstone/Soo Line Historical Museum and other plans.

All donations are being accepted by the Community Foundation for Delta County, 2420 First Ave. S., Escanaba, MI 49829. Checks should be made out in care of Soo Line No. 730.

Cub Scouts open house

GLADSTONE — Cub Scout Pack 3471 and Troop 466 of Gladstone will have an open house night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, in the Jones Elementary cafeteria, 400 S. 10th St. in Gladstone.

Church to have rummage sale

RAPID RIVER — Rapid River Congregational Church will have a rummage sale 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3-4, at 7891 Cleveland St. Also planned are a bake sale and serving luncheon soups, sandwiches and bars. Saturday will be bag day, at $2 per bag.

Menominee MARSP

MENOMINEE — The Menominee County Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, or MARSP, will meet Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Little Nugget Clubhouse on East County Road 338 in Carbondale.

Registration will be 11 to 11:25 a.m. Central time and lunch will be served at 11:30 Central. Lunch will be an Italian dinner at a cost of $15.

Dr. Andrea Lyons from Lyons Physical Therapy will present a program on improving abilities for seniors. A business meeting will follow the program. Members are asked to bring nonperishable food items to be donated to the Mid-County Food Pantry.

Evening sewing classes set

ESCANABA — The U.P. Steam & Gas Village will offer an evening sewing class for beginners from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays from Oct. 9 through Oct. 30 at the Village Community Hall, which is the blue building by the Delta County Chamber of Commerce Building and is attached to the schoolhouse.

St. Stephen’s piano recital

ESCANABA — St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will have a classical piano recital at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at 500 Ogden Ave. in Escanaba.
