Parish breakfast on Sunday

ESCANABA — St. Joseph & St. Patrick Parish will serve breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the parish hall in the basement of the church at 709 First Ave. S. in Escanaba. An elevator is just inside the Seventh Street entrance near the alley for easy access to the parish hall. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Cub Scouts open house

GLADSTONE — Cub Scout Pack 3471 and Troop 466 of Gladstone will have an open house night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Jones Elementary cafeteria, 400 S. 10th St. in Gladstone.

St. Stephen’s piano recital

ESCANABA — St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will have a classical piano recital at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at 500 Ogden Ave. in Escanaba. Retired professional pianist Leonara Hall will perform works by Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy and Ginastera. RAPID RIVER — St. Charles parish center in Rapid River will have fresh pasties available for pickup from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Pre-orders should be done soon, as pasties will be limited — call 906-474-6606 and specify plain or with rutabaga.

Delta Dems to meet

Elks Auxiliary to meet

Bay Sages meeting

ESCANABA — The monthly meeting of the Bay Sages will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, in the Joseph Heirman University Center at Bay de Noc Community College.

The Bay Sages is an organization established to provide educational opportunities for older adults in the Delta County area. Dues are $20 for the year and includes monthly meetings, coffee and cookies at regular meetings and a wide variety of educational opportunities for members. Guests and new members are welcome. Dues are payable at the meeting or can be mailed to the Bay Sages at Bay College.

Chelsea Hart from the William Bonifas Fine Arts Center will speak on, “The Bonifas Arts Center: Past, Present, and Future.” She will touch on the history of the building and how it became the creative space it is today. She will also update the group on the fire and rebuilding process.

Food items will be accepted for the Bay College Food Pantry.

Church to have rummage sale

RAPID RIVER — Rapid River Congregational Church will have a rummage sale 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3-4, at 7891 Cleveland St. Also planned are a bake sale and serving luncheon soups, sandwiches and bars. Saturday will be bag day, at $2 per bag.

Rock craft show

ROCK — The Lions Club in Rock will have a craft show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3 and 4. If interested in being a vendor, call Marie Chartier at 906-356-2015.

Pink Pumpkin run/walk

GLADSTONE — Pink Pumpkin of Delta County will have its 13th-annual 5k run/walk Saturday, Oct. 4, at Gladstone’s Van Cleve Park.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the big pavilion at the east end of the park, with the opening ceremony at 10 a.m. before the 5k begins. The event will also feature kids’ games, bucket raffles, a 50-50 raffle, a bake sale and hot dogs.

The run/walk is “raising funds and awareness for all families in Delta County touched by cancer … All proceeds benefit individuals and families battling cancer,” the organization states. Those attending are asked to wear pink.

Third-annual Chili Challenge

ESCANABA — St. Joseph & St. Patrick Parish will host its third-annual Chili Challenge starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, in the parish hall in the basement of the church, 709 First Ave. S., Escanaba. Those attending can sample 10 different chilis and vote for their favorite. The event will also have bucket raffles, silent auctions and a 50-50 drawing. An elevator is just inside the Seventh Street entrance near the alley for easy access to the parish hall. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Menominee MARSP

MENOMINEE — The Menominee County Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, or MARSP, will meet Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Little Nugget Clubhouse on East County Road 338 in Carbondale.

Registration will be 11 to 11:25 a.m. Central time and lunch will be served at 11:30 Central. Lunch will be an Italian dinner at a cost of $15.

Dr. Andrea Lyons from Lyons Physical Therapy will present a program on improving abilities for seniors. A business meeting will follow the program. Members are asked to bring nonperishable food items to be donated to the Mid-County Food Pantry.

Evening sewing classes set

ESCANABA — The U.P. Steam & Gas Village will offer an evening sewing class for beginners from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays from Oct. 9 through Oct. 30 at the Village Community Hall, which is the blue building by the Delta County Chamber of Commerce Building and is attached to the schoolhouse.

This free class is for adults and children age 8 and older. Equipment and materials will be provided. To register, call 906-280-8578.

New Parkinson group

ESCANABA — The Delta Parkinson support group, a new group affiliated with the Michigan Parkinson Foundation that serves the Escanaba and the surrounding areas, meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Community Action Agency, 507 First Ave. N. in Escanaba. Free Bible class offered

ESCANABA — A free non-denominational course of studies, beginning with learning how to read the Bible with understanding, will take place on Thursday evenings starting Oct. 16 in room 963 of the Joseph Heirman University Center at Bay College, 2001 N. Lincoln Road in Escanaba.

The classes are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Early registration is strongly encouraged, as class size is limited.

St. Anthony’s pasty sale

ESCANABA — St. Anthony’s Church will have its final pasty sale of 2025 on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 16-17. Price is $6 each, with or without rutabaga. To preorder, call or text Debbie at 906-399-4259. Pickup will be at St. Thomas Church in Escanaba. Deliveries can be made to any Escanaba businesses. Limited extra pasties will be available in the late afternoon. The church will not have another pasty sale until April.

Donations sought for book sale

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale at the Waterfront Art Festival.

They are also in need of large print books, which are often requested. Funds from the annual sale are used to publish Voter Guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. The league is not able to accept and store large quantities of books and requests the books meet the donation criteria.

Books can be delivered during normal business hours to the Ludington Centre, 1112 Ludington St. Donors are asked to use the 11th Street entrance, Suite 208, and look for the league’s sign. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 906-280-1789.
