Date changed for The Maryland State Boychoir concert

GLADSTONE — The Maryland State Boychoir will perform a free concert with choral works ranging from classical works to Broadway show tunes on Sunday, Aug. 3, at First Lutheran Church, 1212 Minneapolis Ave. in Gladstone. The show starts at noon.

The group will also perform during the church’s 9 a.m. worship the same day.

Founded in 1987, the mission of The Maryland State Boychoir is to foster the boychoir tradition by offering talented boys opportunities to sing and build self-esteem, self-discipline and character.

The Maryland State Boychoir is Maryland’s “Official Goodwill Ambassadors” is and composed of approximately 130 singers, age 7 to 20. The boys represent a wide range of ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds.

The group performs over 80 times a year. They have performed throughout Maryland, in surrounding states, and on tours that have taken them to Ireland, Wales, England, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Canada, Iceland, Bermuda, and more than 40 states across the United States.

Escanaba Quarterback Club Meat Raffle

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Quarterback Club Meat Raffle will take place at the Escanaba Elks Lodge on Saturday, Aug. 9. The event is open to the public.

Nine meat raffle drawings will take place between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., with 30 minutes between drawings. Each drawing will include five meat items, with more than $2,100 in meat to be given away during the event. Tickets will be sold six for $5.

At 4 and 6 p.m., pistol raffles will take place. One pistol will be given away at each raffle.

A Crown Royal Basket raffle will take place at 5 p.m. with numerous bottles being given away.

The event will also include karaoke from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and the kitchen will be open with a limited menu.

All proceeds will benefit the Escanaba Quarterback Club.

Delta County Genealogical Society to meet

ESCANABA — The next meeting of the Delta County Genealogical Society is set for Monday, July 28 at 5 p.m. in room 961 of the Joseph Heirman University Center building at Bay College. Those attending are asked to bring research stories and problems to the meeting. The public is invited.

Democrats to meet

ESCANABA — The Delta Dems will meet Wednesday, Aug 6, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the USW Hall, 1201 Sheridan Road, Escanaba. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m.

The group welcomes guests and new members and will have a booth in the Ruth Butler building at the UP State Fair.

LWV book sale Aug. 2

ESCANABA — The League of Women Voters of Delta County will hold a used book, video and CD sale on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in conjunction with the Bonifas Fine Arts Center Waterfront Art Festival in Ludington Park.

Proceeds from the sale are used to pay for printing voter education publications or other voter services.

Learn to Fly Day

ESCANABA — The Bay Area R/C Club will host a Learn to Fly Day on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 11 a.m. til 5 p.m.

During the event, individuals can learn to fly remote control model airplanes at no risk ro charge, using the club’s dual control systems.

The Bay Area R/C Flying Club field is located six miles west of Escanaba and four miles north of Hyde on County Road 521/533. Follow the signs to the field.

ESCANABA — First United Methodist Church, located at 302 S 6th St., in Escanaba, will be holding a bake sale on Saturday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Residents of Harbor Tower receive a special discount. Proceeds support mission areas.

Hermansville’s Annual Community Garage Sale set

HERMANSVILLE — Hermansville’s Annual Community Garage Sale will take place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 1 and 2. Friday is an “early bird” sale day, with sales between 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday’s sales will run from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Organizers say they expect 30-40 sales on these days in Hermansville for the annual community-wide garage sale.

Maps will be available late Thursday at Luft’s Advertiser and Wildwood Restaurant and Gas Station. Some sales will be unadvertised.
