Bake sale planned for Aug. 2

ESCANABA — First United Methodist Church, 302 South 6th St., will be holding a bake sale on Saturday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pies, cookies, bread and more will be available.

Residents of Harbor Tower receive a special discount.

Kids Fun Day

ESCANABA — Lakeside Christian Church, located at 2300 South 21st Street in Escanaba, will be hosting a Kids Fun Day on Wednesday, July 16 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The event will feature a bounce house, face painting, games and crafts.

Blessed Hope Baptist plans Vacation Bible School

ESCANABA — “Running With Jesus” is the theme for Vacation Bible School at Blessed Hope Baptist Church July 21-25 from 6:30-8 p.m. for boys and girls ages 5-12. It will be an exciting time of Bible lessons, music, crafts, and snacks. There will also be a visit from the crew of the StarShip “U.S.S. EyeOnthe Prize.”

Pasty sale planned

RAPID RIVER — Fresh pasties will be available at St. Charles parish center in Rapid River on Tuesday, July 29. Pre-order soon as pasties are limited. Call 906-474-6606. Specify plain or with rutabaga. Pickup will be from 1-3:30 p.m.

Foster parents needed

ESCANABA — Upper Peninsula Family Solutions is seeking foster parents throughout the U.P. Foster parents must pass a background check, as well as several other clearances, to demonstrate a safe and positive home environment. Veterans groups announce meeting schedule

ESCANABA — Delta County veteran’s groups have announced their meeting schedule. Amvets meetings are held at the Amvet building and American Legion Post #71 – meetings are held at Gladstone Legion. All other military organizations listed meet at the Purple Heart building, 1202 Sheridan Road in Escanaba.

Here is when each group gathers:

— Disable American Chapter #24 – first Monday of month 7 p.m.

— American Legion Post #71 Gladstone – first Wednesday of month 6 p.m.

— American Legion Post #82 – first Tuesday of month 6 p.m.

— Veterans of Foreign Wars #2998 – second Monday of month 6 p.m.

— Delta County Veterans Counsel – second Monday of month at 7 p.m. (following VFW #2998)

— Marine Corp League Detactment #444 – fourth Wednesday of month 7 p.m.

— Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter #1976 – last Thursday of month 6 p.m.

— Escanaba Amvets Post #123 – last Thursday of month 6 p.m.

LWV seeks book donations

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale at the Waterfront Art Festival. They are also in need of large print books, which are often requested.

Funds from the annual sale are used to publish Voter Guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. The League is not able to accept and store large quantities of books and requests that the books meet the donation criteria.

The book drop-off location has changed. Books can be delivered during normal business hours to the Ludington Centre, 1112 Ludington St. Use the 11th Street entrance, Suite 208, walk straight in and look for the sign. Pick-ups can also be arranged by calling Pat Rudden at 906-280-1789.

Esky Class of 1970 reunion

ESCANABA — The Escanaba High School Class of 1970’s 55th class reunion will be held Saturday, Aug. 16 at Mo’s Pub, located at 2116 Ludington Street. A charge of $20 will be collected at the door for a buffet meal.

Many classmates also will be going out for a fish fry on Friday night at the Highland’s Golf Course starting at 5 p.m.

Esky Class of 1965 reunion

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Class of 1965 60th reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 6 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Island Resort and Casino.

Twenty-two rooms have been reserved for attendees who wish to stay overnight at the casino’s hotel. Those needing a room at the casino should book at least a month in advance and mention “Escanaba Class of 1965 Reunion.”

A tentative plan for the reunion includes an informal get-together at the Escanaba football stadium Friday, followed byu a social hour at a bar.

The event cost is estimated at $30-35, to include a buffet, cash bar and some displays. The reunion committee will start working by early May. For questions, suggestions or to help with planning, contact Mark Miller at 906-786-1507.
