All-you-can-eat breakfast

ROCK — The Rock Lions Club will be hosting an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet and can drive on Sunday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Lion’s Club building, 14454 M-35 in Rock. Children five and under eat free.

Those attending are asked to bring a non-perishable canned good to help support the can drive. The Rock Lions Club is supporting access to food for the local community by creating a location for food collection during select events throughout 2025, including the breakfasts.

Sewing machine classes at Village

ESCANABA — The U.P. Steam and Gas Engine Association will once again be hosting sewing classing this year. Two one-hour classes will be offered on June 5, 12, 19 and 26 in the Antique Village on the U.P. State Fairgrounds.

Students must be at least eight years old. Adults are welcome.

Level 1, a sewing class for beginners, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The class will include the basics of the sewing machine, machine safety, basic machine adjustments, preparing to sew, making seams, fabric basics and finishing a simple project.

Level 2, which is for those with basic sewing machine skills, will take place from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. These classes will include more advanced techniques and cover reading patterns, hemming, seams, pipping, zippers, using elastic and darts, and other skills. Students will complete a pillow as a project.

St. Thomas Church pasty sale

ESCANABA — St. Thomas Church will be holding a pasty sale June 12 and 13. To pre order, call or text Debbie at 906-399-4259.

Pick up will be at St. Thomas Church. Delivery is available to Escanaba businesses. Limited extras will be available in late afternoon.

Esky Class of 1970 reunion

ESCANABA — The Escanaba High School Class of 1970’s 55th class reunion will be held Saturday, Aug. 16 at Mo’s Pub, located at 2116 Ludington Street. A charge of $20 will be collected at the door for a buffet meal.

Many classmates also will be going out for a fish fry on Friday night at the Highland’s Golf Course starting at 5 p.m.

Stamp and coin club to meet

ESCANABA — The next meeting of the Bay de Noc Stamp and Coin Club is Monday, June 9 at 5 p.m. in room 961 of the Joseph Heirman Building at Bay College. The public is always welcome.

Flag disposal June 14

GLADSTONE — The American Legion Post 71 in Gladstone is currently collecting them for proper disposal. Flags are being collected in a container located outside of post.

On Flag Day, Saturday, June 14, 6 p.m., Gladstone American Legion Post 71 will be having a “Dignified Disposal of Unserviceable Flags” at the Delta County Veterans Park in Gladstone. Flags can be dropped off before the event in the container outside the post or can be brought directly to the ceremony.

Rapid River Legion breakfast

RAPID RIVER — Rapid River American Legion Post 301 will host its Second Sunday all-you-can-eat breakfast on Sunday, June 8 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Legion hall. Children age 5 and under eat free and there is a reduced price meal for children age 6 to 12.

Rapid Readers to meet

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid Readers’s June discussion of “The Hidden Life of Trees” by Peter Wohlleben will take place at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River on Monday, June 23 at 10 a.m.

Veterans groups announce meeting schedule

ESCANABA — Delta County veteran’s groups have announced their meeting schedule. Amvets meetings are held at the Amvet building and American Legion Post #71 – meetings are held at Gladstone Legion. All other military organizations listed meet at the Purple Heart building, 1202 Sheridan Road in Escanaba.

Here is when each group gathers:

— Disable American Chapter #24 – first Monday of month 7 p.m.

— American Legion Post #71 Gladstone – first Wednesday of month 6 p.m.

— American Legion Post #82 – first Tuesday of month 6 p.m.

— Veterans of Foreign Wars #2998 – second Monday of month 6 p.m.

— Delta County Veterans Counsel – second Monday of month at 7 p.m. (following VFW #2998)

— Marine Corp League Detactment #444 – fourth Wednesday of month 7 p.m.

— Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter #1976 – last Thursday of month 6 p.m.

— Escanaba Amvets Post #123 – last Thursday of month 6 p.m.

Dance in Rock

ROCK — A dance will be held at the Rock Community/Senior Center, located at 3892 W. Mapleridge Road, on Sunday, June 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. Live music will be provided by Old Friends. There is a door cost and a free-will donation lunch will be available.

Card and game party planned

GLADSTONE — The Friends of the Gladstone Public Library is hosting its annual Summer Card/Game Party and Strawberry Shortcake Social on Thursday, June 12, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of First Lutheran Church, 1212 Minneapolis Avenue, in Gladstone.

There will be a summer basket raffle, a “share the wealth” raffle, as well as door prizes. Tickets are available for $10 at the Gladstone library of from a Friend of the Library. To reserve a table, call Connie at 906-428-1696.

All proceeds got to the library to help support activities and programs for the community, especially children, such as story hours and summer reading programs. This past year the group was able to give the library more than $40,500 thanks to the continued support and generosity of the community.
